Teachers Are Guiding Students To Improve Their Reading

28th January 2022

Teaching techniques are getting upgraded and teachers are getting concerned about the reading capabilities of students. It has been observed that there are several students who often find problems in reading comprehension. To ease out the problem, teachers are coming up with multiple strategies on how to boost reading comprehension skills.

Learners who don't understand how to get better at reading and writing are now getting help from their teachers to the fullest. Students with reading comprehension problems are being trained by teachers who in turn have been guided by Online international teaching diploma courses. Let's go through the tactics used by educators that are beneficial for students.

1. READ ALOUD: If you consider the age of Vedas where learners used to stay in the home of their teachers (guru), they were being repeatedly told by their gurus to chant the Sanskrit words so that they can learn them by heart. According to the gurus, when a student is uttering words out loud and learning a piece, the sound waves are produced, map with the mental wavelength, and ultimately get fixed in the student's mind. The ages of Vedas have gone for long but teachers are using the same methodologies to encourage kids to learn.

2. MEASURE THE CAPACITY: Teachers must have the vision of shaping up a student perfectly so that he/she does not face any problem while reading. That is why, while the practice session continues, teachers should judge the reading capacity of a kid. Definitely, a child of 1st standard should not be given a book or Edgar Allan Poe because that book is beyond the mental ability of that kid according to his/her age limit.

3. READ AGAIN: Appropriate reading materials must be provided to kids and they must be asked to reread those so as to overcome the comprehension difficulty. The more the students read the better will be their fluency in the reading.

Apart from textbooks, teachers can allot a particular time period say 5 minutes or 10 minutes, and ask kids to read any excerpt from the newspapers. Initially, kids having problems in reading might take more than the allotted time to finish off the expert, but eventually with better practice and rereading facilities, they will be able to read fluently.

4. COMMUNICATION: Being parents of a child who is facing a problem in reading, you must communicate to the class teacher or any other faculty member who takes care of such problems. Teachers have expectations from students and if they do not know where the students are facing problems they will remain confused. Thus, there must be a smooth interaction between teachers and students so that the problem gets solved swiftly and smoothly.

5. INTRIGUING TOPICS: Suppose, you're a teacher and you teach a batch of kids who are in 4th standard. If you expect them to grow interested in grave topics like Einstein's relativity theory or Schrodinger Cat theory, you're simply mistaken.

Neither you shall be able to make them understand the significance of those topics nor will they find those interesting as they have no clues regarding quantum physics. Instead, you can ask them who is their favorite superheroes and you'll find out multiple names like Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Ironman, Captain America, and so on. Select excerpts or reading pieces based on their interest and observe their massive growth!

This is how an online international teaching diploma provides a perfectly formulated curriculum and helps teachers to cater to the needs of students. If these steps are followed properly, kids will easily overcome their fear of reading comprehension and their reading skills will accelerate drastically!
